Hawk Ho!

To day I saw a beautiful Red-shouldered Hawk. He was really very pretty think it is really cool to see a hawk in the area, but I am afraid. I hope that he doesn't eat Snowbell, Sammy, Sable, or the black squirrel. If he does, I will be very sad.

Last Sabbath (Saturday) I saw something standing in a field, a long ways away. I at first thought it was a cat, than a dog. Than I asked Father "Is that a fox?" He said, yes it was. I thought that was very cool.

On Sunday, Mother and Father took me to a horse farm and told me that I was going to have horse riding lessons. I was very excited. We are doing this for, I think, three reasons. Two are Pathfinder honors, I forgot what one is, but the other one is Horsemanship. The other reason is I have always wanted to have horse riding lessons, and this seemed the perfect time. The first time I went, I brushed and tacked a pony called Bear, rode him, cleaned a few stalls, laid down some very dusty sawdust, and then blew down the aisle. Riding him was difficult at first, but when I remembered to breath, all was smooth sailing. I just had to remember to keep my feet down, and when you want him to start, push hard enough. The second day, I brushed and vacuumed two horses, one was named Maggie.

All in all, I think I have had a good week so far.

Not Albino, Not normal, What is it?

We have this funny squirrel. He is a very, very pale gray. Compared to the others, he is almost white, but he is gray. I hope that he stays that way. I don't think I have said that there are two other strange squirrels. One has a black face and it's back is a dark gray. His, no, her name is Sammy, short for Samantha. Her tail was bitten off by a cat a few weeks ago, and no, it was not ours. :) We found out a few days ago that she is not a boy. We also have a brown-black squirrel whom we call Sable. and now we have this funny pale one. We named him Snowbell. If, in Pathfinders, in the Mammals honor, you were supposed to fin three not normal squirrels, I thin we would qualify.

Apart from these, we have atleast 7 gray squirrels, and 1 black. The black is so glossy, you just want to reach out and touch him. So, in all, I think we have 11 squirrels in our back yard!

A few weeks ago, Mother looked out the window, and there was Sammy, walking in our backyard, looking wishfully at the empty food bowls. Mother got out some of the grits that she had been saving for the squirrels, put in some honey and peanut butter, and carefully went out the backdoor. Sammy's hunger must have made her very brave, for when Mother was near the place on the deck where she puts the grits, Sammy ran towards her until he was about a yard away from her, than he trembled for a moment and slowly backed up a step or two. When Mother backed back into the house and closed the door, Sammy ran to the grits and immediately took a big lump and started eating. She looked so funny with a big piece of grits in her mouth eating quickly. Mother, William and I all watched while trying to keep from laughing. Why don't you look at my Mother's Garden Blog?

The Eagle

This is the Eagle. A sailing ship used by the U.S. Coast Guard for training.

See the moss-looking stuff on some of the wires? I forgot what this is called, I call it fuzzy stuff. It is used to help the sails from tearing and ripping.

This is Mr.Tomlinson who is our Pathfinder leader. He is a chaplain at the U.S. Coast Gaurd. Standing beside him is Seaman May. She showed us around the ship.

I had a lot of fun on the ship.

On the way back to the car, a ladybug flew onto Father's arm. I thought that was pretty cool.

Ring-billed Gull

We saw this bird at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Mother was so excited that we finally found out what type of Sea Gull this is.

And, by the way, we found out that the pigeons that you see in cities, are actually Rock Doves!
